Watching
Listening
- Cowboy Carter – act ii in Beyonce’s trilogy. Country-inflected, it’s scope is much broader. Reminds me of concept albums like Dirty Computer, Pet Sounds, Smile, and Random Access Memories, but more ambitious. 16 Carriages is my early favorite. Still looking for the track-by-track musician credits.
- “Smalltown Boy” by Bronski Beat – Reacquainted after it was featured in the trailer for Love Lies Bleeding (2024).
Reading
- Jaws by Peter Benchley. A great white shark is killing people in long island resort community if you can believe it. No Hard Feelings (2023) was also set in Long Island. There was a Jaws joke during the skinny-dipping scene.
- The Forgotten History of Hitler’s Establishment Enablers. The New Yorker reviews a new book about the powerful figures who thought Hitler could be controlled or used in service of their own goals.
